Snack Bars and Dining Facilities

There are four snack bars and approximately 33 fast-food and casual eateries located in the Pentagon. The snack bars are operated by the Virginia State Office of Business Opportunities for the Blind (B.O.B.). It should be noted that one eatery, Dominic’s, is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.


The Department of Defense Concessions Committee was formed as the Post Restaurant Council in 1943 and has evolved from basic food service to a full spectrum provider with over 30 food service locations and other consumer services such as 17 retail stores, 290 vending machines, a steady rotation of “Rovers” and a vehicle maintenance shop providing over $1M per year to Pentagon and Mark Center employees via Morale, Welfare and Recreation organizations.

Center Courtyard

The Pentagon comprises a five-acre central plaza, shaped like a pentagon, informally known as “ground zero,” a nickname based on the presumption that the Soviet Union would target one or more nuclear missiles at this location in the event of an outbreak of nuclear war.

The enclosed courtyard is frequently used for performances, displays, speeches, award ceremonies, receptions, and other special events. In addition, the Center Courtyard is used by Pentagon employees for lunch and fresh air breaks.

The Pentagon Athletic Center (PAC) is open daily, including weekends and holidays (except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day). The hours of operation are 5:00 am to 8:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Weekend and government holidays hours are 8:00 am to 6:00 pm (at the Pentagon location). The PAC can be accessed by corridor 7, mezzanine level, G-ring and is located on the basement level between stairwell 64 (Corridor 6) and stairwell 74 (Corridor 7).

The PAC provides physical fitness facilities and fellowship for DoD military and civilian personnel who choose to become members. The PAC is a non-appropriated fund activity operated by Washington Headquarters Services (WHS). All active-duty, reserve military, and DoD civilian personnel in the NCR with Pentagon access are eligible to become members of the PAC.

“Civilian personnel” includes contractor employees, technical representatives, and employees of military banking facilities and credit unions who work on the Pentagon Reservation fulltime in support of the DoD mission. Contractor membership is not intended to authorize participation by routine service, delivery, repair, or other similar personnel.

Dues are payable at the start of membership and may be paid annually or in semi-annual installments. There are also daily, weekly, and monthly rates, as well as rates for Temporary Duty and Temporary Additional Duty personnel.

The Pentagon Library and Conference Center is located outside of the Pentagon building under the River terrace Parade Ground— to access the facility exit the Pentagon through the corridor 8 entrance towards North Parking on the first floor.

Conference Center

The Conference Center includes a large multi-purpose room capable of seating 250 people and 14 smaller meetings rooms of varying sizes and is available for official DoD business or for functions related to official duty. Located in the conference center is a grill to provide food services for your participants. All meetings must have a DoD sponsor and reservations are accepted on a first come – first served basis. Pentagon Library

The Pentagon Library provides information resources and research services to DoD personnel working at the Pentagon and in the NCR region, including active-duty military, civilians, reservists, and government contractors.

To become a member of the Pentagon Library, register in person for a library card. Registration allows members to borrow Library materials and access electronic resources, such as articles, reports, and military documents. Through the Pentagon Library, members have access to a broad range of mission-relevant information necessary to perform their jobs.

Our expert librarians provide assistance with specialized inquires and help obtain any books, articles, reports, or documents.

The Library holds a large collection of books and journals. Its online resources include dozens of article databases and a growing collection of online reports and documents (including e-books). The collection includes Military Sciences and Arts, International Relations, Law and Legislative History, Military Documents, Army Regulations, OSD, and National Capital Region resources in electronic, paper and microform formats.

Specifically, the collection focuses on:

Leadership: Includes suggested leadership development reading from all military branches, as well as from the Joint Forces Staff College and the Combat Studies Institute.

Homeland Defense: Includes material relevant to Border and Transportation Security Directorate, Emergency Preparedness and Response, as well as a recent study on the National Strategy for Combating Terrorism.

International Security Affairs: Information for country studies, NATO, World Organizations and United Nations, as well as the CIA World Fact Book.

Legislative Affairs: Useful information for legal affairs. Includes Congressional Directory, Code of Federal Regulations, military laws, and federal, state, and local regulations.

Logistics: Information and Regulations on military installations, rates and allowances, travel, lodging and dining, and passport services.

Manpower and Personnel: Military benefits, military and civilian employment, career programs and retirement computations.

History: Resources for historians, includes biographical information on Army, Air Force, Navy Leaders, Senior Defense Officials, and military history.

To visit the Library’s primary location at the Pentagon, proceed through the E ring exit of the Pentagon, on the first floor at Corridor 8, and cross the “bridge” to the PLC2. The Library has a satellite location at the Mark Center on level B1.

The Office of the Pentagon Chaplain supports and provides for the free exercise of religion for all personnel, military and civilian, assigned to the Pentagon. The Pentagon Chaplain’s mission is:
